Phoenix Boys Choir Embarks To St. Lawrence Seaway
For Tour 2010
Tour Choir departs June 3
PHOENIX, AZ: The Phoenix Boys Choir Tour Choir is departing on a nine-city tour of the St. Lawrence Seaway on Thursday, June 3, traveling between the United States and Canada. The international tour includes visits to Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, Trois Rivieres, Potsdam, Rochester and ending in Buffalo, New York on June 20. The twenty-nine member world-renowned Tour Choir will perform a selection of classical and sacred songs, plus special repertoire unique to the tour. Each summer, the Tour Choir, the top choir of the Phoenix Boys Choir, travels on a two-three week domestic or international tour to introduce the boys to new cultures and enhance their self-responsibility.
The Cantabile Choirs of Kingston, Ontario, Canada will host the Phoenix Boys Choir during their two-day trip on June 5 and 6. A concert will take place on June 5 at the Sydenham Street United Church at 7:30 pm. Founded in 1947, the Phoenix Boys Choir has programs featuring training in voice, music theory, and performance for boys age 7 to 14. Currently, there are 150 young boys participating, making it one of the largest and most active boy choirs in the United States. The Phoenix Boys Choir tours nationally and internationally, records CDs and sings with other professional groups. They have performed for four United States Presidents, with name entertainers such as Doc Severinsen, Stevie Wonder, and Keith Lockhart conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra, and even won a Grammy Award. Artistic Director, Georg Stangelberger, is the former Deputy Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys Choir and joined the Phoenix Boys Choir in 1999.
