MERA AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN THE FINE ARTS AND FINE CRAFTS

The MERA Award of Excellence in the Fine Arts and Fine Crafts will be offered next in 2011.

Recognizing that artists and craftspeople are essential to the vitality and well-being of the communities of Eastern Ontario, the MERA Award was created in 2008 to provide a vehicle to acknowledge excellent works of fine art and fine craft and to celebrate local area artists and craftspersons who demonstrate excellence in their work.

The Award includes a cash prize. In 2009, the first year that the MERA Award was given, the cash prize was $1000.

Nominees for the Award must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada ordinarily resident in one of the following Eastern Ontario municipalities: the Townships of Lanark Highlands, Tay Valley, Drummond/North Elmsley,Central Frontenac and North Frontenac and the Town of Perth.

The MERA Award is administered by McDonald’s Corners/Elphin Recreation & Arts (MERA). The MERA Award is funded by endowments held and managed by The Perth & District Community Foundation (PDCF)

More information about PDCF can be found at www.pdcf.ca. Anyone wishing to contribute to the MERA Award endowment funds should contact PDCF at pdcf@bellnet.ca. Donations to MERA to fund the cost of administration will also be accepted. To arrange a donation, please email MERA at meraschoolhouse@bell.net

The MERA Award guidelines and schedule will be published on MERA’s website (www.meraschoolhouse.org) in fall 2010. The deadline for submissions will be late winter 2011. The Award will be given at a ceremony to be held in early summer 2011.

The guidelines and schedule for the 2009, the last time that the Award was given, will be posted on MERA’s website later in June 2010.  Please note that those guidelines may change to reflect suggestions received from various participants in the Award process. If you have any suggestions for improvements, please send them to MERA at meraschoolhouse@bell.net.  Please put “MERA Award” in the subject line. Emails will not be acknowledged but will be received with gratitude and read with interest. Senders may be contacted for clarification.

You/your organization will be contacted when the 2011 guidelines are posted.

Meanwhile, please circulate this email/information to everyone you think might be interested. Anyone interested in the MERA Award is welcome to join the Award email list by emailing MERA at meraschoolhouse@bell.net

Thank you for your attention.
