Cantabile Nominated for NATIONAL AWARD

The *Cantabile Choirs of Kingston* under the direction of* Mark Sirett*
have been nominated for a prestigious national award given by the
*Association of Canadian Choral Communities* for Canada's *OUTSTANDING
CHORAL EVENT *for* 2009*.

The opening concert of Cantabile's current 2009-10 season entitled
*"Brown Eagle, Black Raven"* was nominated as an impressive musical
salute to the world's aboriginal peoples. Special guests representing
Canada's First Nations included *Sisters of the Drum* and
*Inuit-throatsingers* */Nukariik./ *The concert included music inspired
by aboriginal culture around the world including Inuit, North American
First Nations, Maori, Hawaiian, and Australian aboriginal. In
additiona, */Nukariik /*provided an afternoon workshop on Inuit culture,
drumming and dance

Enhancing the concert experience were beautiful Cape Dorset Prints
provided by *Cornerstone Fine Arts, Kingston. *Additional projections
of the Northern lights, First Nations artifacts, and scenes of the
Canadian wilderness and Australian Outback compimented the concert.

The winner will be announced later this week at *Podium,* the biennial
convention of the Association.

Cantabile presents the final concert of its season on *Sat. May 29th at
7:30 with BLUE MOON, *a special tribute to hits of the 50s, 60s, and
beyond including music by the* Beatles, Billy Joel, Leonard Cohen *and
more*. Special guests *will be the* Greg Runions Trio. Tickets *are on
sale at the* Grand Theatre Box Office.*

  1. I attended this performance. My son has sung with the choirs for several years. I started to attend because of his presence on the stage. After he is off to University - I will continue. Truly some of the most amazing i have heard sung live..... and I am firmly in the Alt music camp...
